    • Dixie Sayre Miller

MILLER Dixie Sayre Miller, died on July 29, 2009, aged 86, after a long and heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Columbus, Oh. to Harrison and Mary Sayre, Dixie actively supported cultural, educational and historical institutions in Ohio, including the Ohio Historical Society, of which she was a Trustee and President; the Columbus Landmarks Foundation, which renamed its Outstanding Patron Award the "Dixie Sayre Miller Patron Award" in her honor; the Columbus Museum of Art; the Columbus Foundation; Broad Street Presbyterian Church; and the Columbus School for Girls. She worked tirelessly to save the Alfred Kelley Mansion and on many projects for the Junior League of Columbus and the Twig III of Children's Hospital. She was active in tutoring and volunteering with the homeless. Each winter she welcomed sledders from all over the city to "Miller's Hill" and in warmer seasons was an active recycler in Bexley. Outside Ohio, Dixie supported Concord Academy (Mass.) and Vassar College (N.Y.). Fond of the sea, she spent summers in Point O'Woods, N.Y. and in Caithness, Scotland.

Preceded in death by her husband Albert Fullerton Miller, Dixie is survived by her brother, Robert Sayre; her children, Dixon Miller, Phebe Olcay, Lisa Westwater, and Blythe Brown; and her many grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at Broad Street Presbyterian Church with a celebration of life ceremony to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to any of the aforementioned organizations would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements with SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E State St., Columbus, Oh. 43215. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to offer condolences.
