      Jesup, Ga.

      James A. Simmons, 65, of Jesup, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Monday, January 30, 2017 and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Wayne County native lived most of his life in Long County and was a retired Civil Service Employee and U.S. Army Veteran. His hobbies were anything to do with horses, including barrel racing, track racing, and trail riding. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Jack Simmons, Sr.; brother, Jack Simmons, Jr.

      Survivors are his wife, Vanessa Simmons of Jesup; daughter, Jessica Simmons of Ludowici; son and daughter-in-law, Greg (Sandy) Simmons of Glennville; step-daughters, Amanda Lafferty of Brunswick and Jamie (Todd) Wagner of Richmond Hill; 8 grandchildren, Garrett, Kayla, Logan, Tanner, Jaxson, Ansleigh, Grant, and Lilly; great granddaughter, Aniston; brother and sister-in-law, Randy (Wanda) Simmons of Ludowici; several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Andy Pusser officiating along with American Legion Post 311 presenting the American Flag. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Garrett Simmons, Logan Simmons, Russell Simmons, Ryan Simmons, Hagen Goode, Reid Goode, and Tanner Benton.

      Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the funeral home.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

      Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.
