ST. GEORGE - Alta Beckstead Pratt finished her long journey on earth on Monday, August 21, 2006, holding the hand of her daughter Kathy. Alta was 92 years old.

Alta was born in Spanish Fork, Utah on June 24, 1914, to Henry Wallace Beckstead and Ivadell Gough Beckstead. Her early years were spent in Payson, Utah and Long Beach, CA.

Alta moved to Hollywood, CA., in the 1930's. She married James Woodrow Rogers and the marriage produced a daughter, Lura Lee in 1942. The marriage ended in divorce. She met and married Ralph Milton Pratt in 1956, and their daughter Kathy was born in 1957. They remained together until Ralph's death in 1967.

Alta joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1970 and became a faithful member. She moved to St. George in 1986, and soon was wrapped up in temple work and part-time cashiering at Irmita's restaurant. She became a fixture walking around the west side of town, exercising daily, stopping and visiting with numerous neighbors and friends.

Alta is survived by her daughters Lura Lee Kilgore (Lonnie) of Heflin, Alabama and Kathy Wayman (Ric) of St. George, a stepdaughter Arleen Ehrig (Jasper) of Sherman Oaks, California, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and many friends we've made at the St. George Rehabilitation and Care Center for their love and support in Alta's last months.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 24, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the St. George LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 166 S. Main St., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., and Thursday , from 10-10:45 a.m., at the chapel, prior to services at the chapel. Alta will be buried next to her husband Ralph in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 11:30 a.m., prior to the interment. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221. Condolences may be sent to the family through Metcalf's website at www.metcalfmortuary.com
