  • Notes  Died:
    • The Sandersville Progress, 17 Nov 1938:
      C.G. Rawlings Dies Tuesday Night
Was Prosperous Citizen in Years of the Past
Charles G. Rawlings, died at his home in west Sandersville at 6 o'clock Tuesday night, aged 81 years.
Funeral services will be conducted from the residence on the Milledgeville road, Thursday morning at 10:30, with Rev. E. G. Orahood officiating.
In the early years of his life Mr. Rawslings was extensively interested in the sale of mules and farming, and was one of the most prosperous business men of this section. When the boll weevil first made its appearance in Washington county, he lost heavily, as he was operating six hundred plows in this and Johnson county, which proved disastrous to his financial affairs, from which he never recovered.
Mr. Rawlings was a son of the late Fred C. Rawlings and Susan Tarbutton Rawlings, pioneer citizens of Washington county, both of whom lived to advanced age. He was a brother of the late Dr. William Rawlings, one of Georgia's most famous surgeons, who established the Rawlings Sanitatium here about forty years ago, and Judge Benjamin T. Rawlings who served in the state legislature, as mayor of Sandersville, Solicitor-General of the Middle Circuit, and also judge of this circuit.
Although advanced in years Mr. Rawlings was always cheerful in his disposition and wanted again to be in charge of business activities.
He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Robert Houston of Monroe, N.C., Mrs. Arthur Wray of Atlanta, and Mrs. Daniel Smith of Griffin; one son, Willie Fred Rawlings of Macon; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
