      Death Notice For Ruth Alafae Jones Bowen
      Mrs. Ruth Alafae Jones Bowen, 87, of Blackshear, died this morning at Baptist Village after an extended illness. Arrangements will be announced later by Smith Funeral Home of Blackshear.

      Obituary For Ruth Alafae Jones Bowen
      A funeral for Mrs. Ruth Alafae Jones Bowen, 87, will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at Waycross Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Waters Cemetery. There will be visitation this evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear. The family will also receive friends at Sonny Bowen's home, 6680 Youmans Chapel Road, Blackshear.

      She died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at Baptist Village after an extended illness. She was retired as housekeeping supervisor at Ware Memorial Hospital. She was also a former schoolteacher in Pierce County and a former employee of the Bamboo Shoe Manufacturing Company. A lifelong resident of the Youmans Chapel area of Pierce County, although born in Wayne County, she was a Blackshear High School graduate and attended Georgia Southern University. Before her health declined, she was an active member of Waycross Primitive Baptist Church.

      Her parents were Hiram Ezra and Sallie Ann Yeomans Jones and her former husband was the late W.S. "Buddy" Bowen Sr. Also preceding her in death were a grandson, Winston Monroe Bowen Jr., an infant sister, Mattie Thelma Jones, and an infant son.

      She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith Bowen and Beal O'Steen, and two sons and daughters-in-law, William Stephen Jr. and Deborah Sieg Bowen and Winston M. "Sonny" Sr. and Jane Brantley Bowen, all of Blackshear; two sisters, Trudie Jones Strickland of Waycross and Sallie Mac Jones Griffis of Port Wentworth; four grandchildren, Pamela O'Steen Baker (husband Greg), Matthew Beal O'Steen, William Brantley Bowen and Mary Kathryn Bowen; a greatgrandson, Benjamin Harris Baker; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

      Memorial donations may be made to Waycross Primitive Baptist Church, Baptist Village, or the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
