    • Obituary of Colonel W. Schmick USAF
      Lt Colonel John William Schmick USAF (Ret), 68, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 after an extended illness. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 6:00PM with a visitation following until 8:00PM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Birmingham Alabama with visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.

      Mr. Schmick was born on September 23, 1949 to the late William and Virginia Schmick. John was a pilot for the United States Air Force for 22 years in which he served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. His favorite quote was ?I would fly for free, I just happen to get paid for flying?. John earned his master?s degree during his military service. After his retirement from the US Air Force, he taught as an ROTC teacher at Burke County High School, was the manager of the Robins Air Force Base Aero Club and taught English at Georgia Military College. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Homestead Hospice 500 Osigian Blvd Warner Robins GA 31088 or Multiple System Atrophy Coalition (MSA) 9935-D Rea Road, #212 Charlotte, NC 28277.

      Survivors include his loving wife Vicki Boone Schmick of Warner Robins, two daughters Jennifer Lynn Schmick and Sarah Katherine Schmick of Warner Robins, one sister Jane Schmick Hogue of AL, three grandchildren Blake Andrew, Mary Katherine, Jamie Lynn and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
