  • Notes
    • John Sunday was married to Barsheba Collins in Georga U.S.A. and this family moved to Escambia County Florida. After Barsheba's death, John took one of his slaves, Jinny, as his mistress, and they had four children, Harrison, Amanda/Mercedes, David/Thomas and John Jr.
      - - Sheila Moore [2]

    Died:
    • On the fourth of April, 1839, John Sunday was murdered in his home. "Not having the fear of God before his eyes, but being moved and seduced by the instigations of the Devil," Sunday's slave, Adam, held a ten dollar gun to the right side of John's head and shot him, killing him instantly. It was late evening, around eight o'clock, when he was slain: John had been sitting by a fire with three of his white sons and several slaves, all of whom witnessed the event. (The local Pensacola Gazette reported, in error, that no white persons were present; however, the murder indictment lists George Washington, John and Francis Sunday, John's sons by Barsheba, as witnesses along with the slaves Jinny, Lacy, Jane, Anna and Jack).
