Mike,
My father is Lawrence Wesley Bayne, Born Oct 7, 1922. Your site has his birthday in 1923.
Dad joined the Navy before the age of 18, lied about his age. I was an adult before I knew his real birthday. I was told that on his 7th birthday, his father, Donald Jacquin Bayne was driving a logging truck in Topelo, MS when the logs broke through the cab of the truck causing a horrible accident. He was killed along with a child and parent in on on-coming car.
I was in Florence Al a few years ago and stopped by the libray. I asked for past newspapers and smack on the front page of an Oct 7, 1929 issue of the local paper was an account of the accident. I could then verify my grandfather's death and my father's birthday.
He married Gerturde (Trudy) Caroline Fietzer on Jan 10, 1945 in Washington, DC. Both Larry and Trudy were in the Navy during WWll. He retired in 1958, went to school in San Diego on the G.I. bill, and became an enginner. Kids born to them are:
Marilyn Joyce Bayne, born Feb 21, 1947
Lawrence Wesley Bayne, Jr., Born May 4, 1948
Twin girls Michele (me) and Patricia, Born July 21, 1951
1980 was a horrible year for us. My dad died of a heart attack at age 57 (too much grease and gravy growing up!). My sister, Marilyn was shot and killed in her home age 32, then my mother developed cancer and passed away that year, too. Now 25 years later my twin sister Patty and I live in the same town, Ridgecrest, and work for the government. I don't know how much more you want to know!
Your site gave me more info on my family than I have ever been able to find.
Thanks so much!
